FOUND 0.4.48 — Patch for 0.4.47
This round is about a bigger island that sounds alive: the map grew, new villages and ruins appeared, and animals and the desert now have their own voices. Effects got a more cartoon look, plus a long list of fixes.
New
The island grew. The map is about 44% larger. Trees, rocks, bushes, mushrooms and animals grew in number at the same rate, so the island got bigger without getting emptier. The volcano's mountain grew with it.
More places to find. There are now 6 villages on the island (up from 4), and abandoned ruins went from 16 to 20.
Swimming holes in frozen lakes. Lakes in the snow now freeze properly, with no more half-finished patches of ice. Every frozen lake keeps an open hole over its deepest spot, so you can get into the water and back out.
Fast swimming. Hold Shift in the water for quicker strokes. It costs stamina, and both your arms and the splashes speed up.
Severed limbs bleed. A zombie that lost an arm or a leg keeps bleeding from the wound. Blood pools on the ground and slowly fades after a while. A crawling zombie leaves a trail.
Things look settled into the ground. Rocks, logs, chests and anything you place take on the colour of the ground around their base: snow, sand, dirt or grass. They look like they have been there for years.
Sound
- Desert: new footsteps on sand and a sand-blown desert wind.
- Water: new splashing steps when you wade through shallow water.
- Goats and sheep: they bleat now and then and cry out when hurt.
- Vultures: a heavy, low wing beat with every flap. Silent while gliding.
- Lava: the hiss of rain falling on lava is quieter and softer.
- Snow: the wind in the snowy region is a bit quieter.
- Volume settings: master volume now starts at 100%. The game is not louder; you can simply turn it down if you like.
Look
- Cartoon steam: when lava meets water or a fire goes out, chunky outlined puffs of steam swell up and pop.
- Death effect: a quick star-shaped flash, then spinning blood splats, and a stain left on the ground.
- Water foam: while swimming, foam now hugs your body and leaves a trail of frothy patches behind you instead of straight lines.
- The HUD fits your screen: the map, health bars, hotbar, quest list and compass shrink with a smaller window and grow on a big screen.
- Rain: desert and snow no longer get wet in the rain (beach sand still does).
Camera
- Dropkick: the camera now moves with your body. It no longer slips inside it and hides half of it, and the shake is gentler.
- First person: look down and you can see your neck; no more headless look.
- Switching views while swimming: going back to first person no longer leaves the camera behind your back for a second.
Fixes
- Removed the loud burst of sound when the game starts.
- In some places you kept burning with no lava in sight; an invisible lava path was to blame, and it's fixed.
- Fixed the shoreline strip that flickered in the rain when seen from afar.
- The tutorial now opens as soon as loading finishes, with no wait.
- The grey backdrop now only appears behind the pause menu. Settings, saves and the quest screen stay in colour.
- Jumps are slightly lower.
- Fewer draw calls in busy scenes: a small performance gain.
